The 2 most popular questions I get asked by my clients are… 1. What is your favourite makeup brand? 2. What are your favourite makeup products? Globally we spend 170 billion dollars a year on beauty products! 20% of that 170 billion is spent on makeup products alone! So, it’s no surprise when clients are eager to hear what my favourite makeup brands and products are. We all want to know what makeup products work and which products are really worth the money so we can make better informed purchases and let’s face it… it’s always nice to think you have one up on any cosmetic company by knowing the inside scoop!
My professional kit is worth thousands of dollars and it’s taken me years and years to test and collect just the right brands and products for just the right kind of clients. I work with many different clients from commercial to advertising to fashion and special events but my bridal clients demand a bit more than most of my other clientele. Brides call for water resistant, long wearing, natural feeling, camera friendly makeup that doesn’t irritate their skin and makes them feel like themselves only better. Not exactly a small request but certainly something a bridal client should expect from an experienced makeup artist. So today I’m sharing with you those extra special makeup products that go above and beyond for me. Those products “I simply can’t live without!”

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
Looking for a little sparkle without a lot of shimmer? This palette has it covered! Perfect under blush, over blush and to highlight on the cheekbone and the cupids bow. Adds a pretty natural sheen to the skin. Brides, mothers of the bride/groom and grandmothers love the effects of this little gem!
Yes some products are just worth the money! Chanel lipsticks have always been a cult classic among pro makeup artists and to this day, not much as changed. Others come and go but Chanel lipsticks never fail to deliver. There is literally a formula suitable for each of my clients. I carry many brands of lipsticks but when I’m in doubt, Chanel is my go-to winner.
Recommended to me by another senior artist in Toronto who I will be forever grateful to, Tarte eye shadows have become a permanent fixture in my pro (and personal) kit. Soft pretty colours that are highly pigmented and easily blendable. These eyeshadows are ideal for brides and bridal party members.
I’ve always carried NARS blushes in my professional kit so there is nothing new there. What is new for me is that I’ve now taken all my other blush brands out of my kit – with the exception of 1 MAC blush that I love too much to let go off called ‘Warm Soul.’ NARS blushes are the “grand daddy” of all blushes, hands down. Gorgeous colours, amazing pigmentation, excellent blendability. My favourites? Orgasm, Unlawful, Deep Throat and Desire. (seriously….who thinks up these names?)
Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Bronzing Veil
There are so few bronzers I actually like. I know, I know….many of you are yelling at me over your screens right now but it’s a fact. So many bronzers on the market are just a nasty orange base colour that never give the glowing effect many brides hope for. Even worse, most bronzers photograph badly yet Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Bronzing Veil isn’t one of them. If you’re a bride looking for a natural soft looking tan/glow that photographs well, this bronzer won’t disappoint.
Mink Strip Lashes
Certainly false lashes are a staple among most of my brides. Mink lashes are definitely a luxury product (approximately $50.00 + a pair for the real deal) but the benefits of wearing something so natural and luxurious is worth the money. Synthetic lashes can be beautiful as well but often aren’t as natural looking and can feel heavy on the eye lid. Mink lashes are light (so light in fact you won’t feel them at all!) and blend in perfectly with your own natural lash. If you’re a bride wanting the utmost in luxury on your wedding day, you really need to try these out. The big bonus to wearing disposable mink lashes? Once you’ve worn your lashes on your wedding day you can re-use them yourself for other occasions. In fact you can re-use mink lashes up to 50 times if you take care of them properly.
Senna Brow Palette
Eyebrows are so important for any woman but especially for brides. A good well defined brow will make the difference between a pretty photograph or yourself and a “WOW” photograph of yourself. I prefer to use powders over pencils because powders give a more natural look to the brow. You can also seal brow powders meaning your brows are going to look natural throughout your wedding day even in extreme heat. (remember that all makeup related pencils have an oil base and oil loves to run especially in heat!) I love the Senna brow palette colour ranges and pigmentation. This is definitely a product that is loved by many makeup artists globally.
